We have both made some pretty awesome friends in Richmond. They keep us on our toes, and inspire us more than they know. Two in particular are Rachel and Harris. Ever since our worlds collided, we've pretty much been inseparable. Here is a cute picture of them goofing off at Maymont from a couple months ago.
Last week the unthinkable happened. Rachel and I were hanging out when Harris called to say that their home was on fire. We rushed to her house to see the entire building engulfed in flames. We both stood there crying and in shock, as over forty firemen tried to save their home. The house consisted of five separate apartments, where nine people lived. Three of the people that lived there, including Harris, were on tour with their band over nine hours away. Luckily one person was home, Oliver, who busted down Rachel and Harris' door to save their cat and dog.All nine residents lost pretty much everything they owned. The fire took the entire building, and the water hoses destroyed the rest. The community has been so amazing in helping out everyone. There were countless benefits, fundraisers, donations from local businesses, and help from the Red Cross. I helped house Rachel, Harris, and their dog June until they found a new apartment, and donations were constantly being dropped off at my house. Almost $6000 in cash was raised for the nine residents, and people donated more clothes, books, appliances etc. than I could ever have imagined. I am so proud to say that I live in such an amazing city, where the community is truly there for each other!
Both Rachel and Harris wanted something to remember this by, so we ventured down to their old home and shot this picture.
Rachel, Harris, we love you both and are always here for you. We know that everything is going to be okay, and can't wait to see what new amazing things you do!
